Support May Day 2013 in Boston

Dear Compañeras and Compañeros,

The Boston May Day Committee invites you to join us in celebration and commemoration of the heroic struggle of the Chicago Martyrs who in 1886 gave their lives in the struggle for the eight-hour day, International Workers Day, on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 to gather at 2:pm for a rally at 2:30pm on the Boston City Hall Plaza/Government Center (Court and Cambridge Streets).

The Boston May Day Committee, in collaboration, with the Coalición Primero de Mayo (Chelsea, East Boston and Everett) and the support of labor organizations, clergy and social and economic change, antiwar, human rights, immigrant rights and community organizations will send a regionally strong and united message on May Day to demonstrate our outrage and to demand a halt to corporate welfare paid to Wall Street and the super rich with money bled from workers.

We have, in the past two years, witnessed unprecedented attacks on the Labor Movement in Wisconsin and Ohio and stat sponsored anti union movements in a number of other parts of the country. In 2012, union membership declined by 2.8% so that today only 11.3% of the workforce is unionized. While in the past decade, median family income has declined from $54,841 to $50,054. Today fifty million Americans live below the federal poverty level of $23,021 dollars for a family of four and another fifty million have incomes barely above the official poverty level. On third of us are officially poor. 7.8% of Americans are unemployed and an additional 7% occupy part time and temporary jobs. In the meantime, foreclosures, after a brief decline, have begun to rise again.

In addition, while congress plays football with their lives, immigrant workers are stuck in limbo.

We are part of the 99% and we demand:

• Bail out workers not Wall Street
• Immigrant rights are workers’ rights
• Permanent residency for ALL workers
• Money for jobs and education, NOT for wars and occupation
• United we stand divided we fall

We must unite and organize to send a powerful message to the 1% who control our lives! We are asking that you:

• Endorse this event
• Promote this event
• mobilize your organization, members and community for the May 1st rally
